VBX Series (Watson III) - The Watson II Replacement
The VBX Series cards date back to 1989 and were produced until the fall of 2000. There are several models in this series, the more common are:
- VBX 100 - Supports a single standard phone
- VBX 100i - Supports a single standard phone, 3/4 length card
- VBX 200 - Supports two standard phone lines
- VBX 400 - Supports four standard phone lines
- VBX 400 DID - Supports four DID (Direct Inward Dial) Trunks
- VBX 600 - Resource card only, no telephone interface
- VBX 1200 - Resource card only, no telephone interface
Unlike the original Watson II, the manufacturer did not sell any finished software for these cards other than DOS and OS/2 drivers. NMS did provide a package called Vscript and another called ME/2 as development kits.
The original customers for these cards typically wrote a software package that would support the CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) usages for which these cards were designed. Then they sold that package along with the cards.
